Important Notes on Fire Adapted Plants 
We generally do not recommend putting any plants (or mulch) within the first 5 feet of a home, especially if you live within the Wildland Urban Interface. Plants that are spread out and are broken up into smaller beds via gravel or pavers are okay within the first 30 feet of the home. Do not plant a tree that may over hang the roof when it gets older. Leafy green plants or waxy leaves are preferred. Keep plants away from wooden fences and structures when possible. Remember any plant can burn if it gets hot enough!
There are 3 zones around a home: 0-5 ft (3. immediate), 5-30 ft (2. intermediate) and 30-100ft (3. extended). Below are plants that are okay to plant over 5 feet (intermediate zone) away from your home.
