One of the more recognizable trees of the west coast, this aromatic tree is a wonderful addition to parks or large sprawling properties. This evergreen conifer does not usually develop the “winter burn” brown color that Western Red Cedar does.
Outside its normal range, or without lots of moisture, their size remains smaller and ends up being bushier, which could be ideal for some homeowners. While normally growing at altitudes of 160ft to 9500ft, they can grow in lower altitudes in landscaping when given lots of space.
Ethnobotanical uses of this plant historically and currently include decoctions from the leaves for stomach issues, herbal bark steams for colds, basket and broom making, and smudging. Just like with Red Cedar, the wood resists insects and decay.
*Full-sun but can withstand a little partial shade.
* Prefers moist, well-drained, fertile and slightly acidic soils. Has adaptability to other soil types. Can develop a drought tolerance if infrequently watered when young.
*Suitable for cool, mountainous areas, as bank stabilization, riparian areas, windbreaks, or hedges depending on your land.
* up to 75ft-197ft high, 15-50ft wide.
*Sold Bare Root
*Sold in bundles of 10
